| James Avery
is a familiar face on the Los Angeles Theater scene as well as on television
and film. Among his local theater credits: ‘Sam Thomas’ in “Blues
For An Alabama Sky” at the Los Angeles Theatre Center, ‘Montague’
in the Ahmanson Theatre production of “Romeo and Juliet” directed
by Sir Peter Hall, ‘Paul Robeson’ in the Back Alley Theatre’s
production of “Are You Now Or Have You Ever Been” and in “Tinkle
Time” at the Met Theatre, directed by Griffin Dunne. Regional theater:
“Twelfth Night” at the San Jose Repertory Company, “Much
Ado About Nothing” at the Long Wharf Theater in New Haven, Connecticut
and “Playland” at Seattle’s Intiman Theatre. At the Oregon
Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, he has played leads such as ‘Othello’
and ‘Sizwe Bansi’ in “Sizwe Bansi is Dead.” Avery recurs as ‘Lucas’ on UPN Network’s “All of Us,” executive produced by fellow “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” cast mate Will Smith, and on Showtime Network’s “Soul Food,” as ‘Walter’. He played ‘Philip Banks,’ a successful Harvard-educated judge on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” which ran for six years on NBC-TV. |
